Drogheda trip

Setanta Sports, FAI and Drogheda United FC have issued an invitation to a group of Junior Blues to be their guests at the Setanta Cup game on 26 February.

Last season Linfield hosted a party of young people at Windsor Park and Setanta, the FAI and Drogheda are keen to develop these cross border, cross community type trips.

In addition, the FAI paid last season for a coach load of Junior Blues to attend the Shelbourne v Linfield game in Dublin.

The invitation is for 40 young people and 10 adult supervisors - a ratio that would have to be strictly adhered to. In the event of there being more adults applying, a means would be found to reduce the number to the number required by Drogheda.

Applying to go is by no means a guarantee of going. For the trip to proceed there will have to be the required numbers to make up the coach.

The itenary drawn up by Drogheda, the FAI, the Garda and Setanta Sporrts is as follows.

1pm - departure from Windsor Park

2.45pm - escort by Garda from North Drogheda

3pm - Tour of the Battle of the Boyne site

4pm - Historical Drogheda tour

5pm - Tea with Drogheda schoolchildren in a Drogheda hotel. The tea would be sponsored by local businesses. There would be gifts for our kids.

7pm - Taken to match - tickets courtesy of Drogheda, coach provided by FAI.

There would be a cross community champions league style hand shake on the pitch prior to kick off and Setanta are keen to publicise this.

10pm - The coach provided by the FAI would return us to Windsor Park

A small fee will be levied to enable us to reciprocate some of the hospitality when Drogheda travel to Windsor Park.

All travelling will by then have to have a Travel card

This was put to the meeting on Saturday and a healthy number have so far put down their name as interested in travelling.

If you want to be considered for this trip you must contact Andy Conn immediately and no later than 27 January.

The generosity of FAI, Setanta, Drogheda FC, the Garda and local Drogheda businesses in coming up with this very detailed invitation / itenary has been very much appreciated.

Andy can be contacted at andyconn@linfieldfc.com

IT MUST BE STRESSED -- HOWEVER MANY APPLY TO GO, THE TRIP CAN ONLY PROCEED IF THE REQUIRED RATIO OF APPLICANTS IS REACHED, THERE IS VERY LIKELY TO BE SOME WHO APPLY WHO WILL END UP DISAPPOINTED

Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment.
